Domain mapping
Research before targeting the problem to solve
Help your problem-solvers see the big picture even as they peel off and focus on a piece
More easily chart different pathways and workarounds
More easily highlight who / what is intransigent
Bend brains without breaking them
Stop doing the same thing, expecting different results
Highlight the system nudge points
Why
Function, not just look like it might
Find ways to smudge the binary without smudging user agency
Develop understanding in context
Troubleshoot seemingly intractable problems
Government needs it badly. Contact me, please. I have mapping I’d love to do with the right financial supporter(s)!
Entities that can benefit:
Businesses that want their work to function, and to really fix what doesn't function rather than try to fake it, apply optics, etc.
Organizations that are working towards societal constructs that benefit an ever-expanding sense of inclusion.
Scientific endeavors that brings our perception — through senses, sensors, logic, and math — ever closer to reality, and keeps expanding the edges of our universe.

Take what is big, nebulous — maybe even intimidating — and research around the enabling structures.
Then make holistic sense of relays, explicit/implicit people organizations, and data management points
Transparency. Traceability. Replicability. Accountability.
These are the functions that enable good data and information. They enable the mechanics of building good information, and the very human behaviors around it. Not to put it in stone, but to better understand the possibilities.
The artifacts change to support the work, often including writing, presentations, or spreadsheets. I use domain mapping as an intrinsic part of my process, so if it’s a project I love we can extend to interactive wireframes.
Some public passion projects that deeply leveraged domain mapping:
My why…
My reason why I’m making a call for hard work (that I absolutely love) won’t impact your project. What I’m looking for doesn’t have anything to do with specifics, but with patterns. The NDA I’m sure we’ll sign (I can’t easily remember a project without one) will not have the smallest potential chink.
Short version is: I have an idea. It’s a passion project that could nestle into another project. First I have to test it. It’s abstract, high-level strata, so…I need more domains in my head.
